Sono Free beta

Privacy policy

Last updated:

The short version: this website doesn't use cookies and doesn't ask for any of your details. Sono, the coach on Telegram, stores what you tell it so it can coach you. It uses an AI service to write its replies, never sells your data, and deletes everything when you send /deleteme.

1Who we are

Sono is an AI fitness coach that runs as a Telegram bot (@Sonopilot_bot). It's in free beta and run by Luke Alexander, who is responsible for your data. This policy covers the website asksono.com and the Sono bot. Where we say "we", we mean Luke and the small team helping him run Sono.

Sono is a coaching tool and doesn't give medical advice. Talk to a doctor before making big changes to your exercise or diet, especially if you have a health condition.

Sono is run from Maryland, United States.

2What this website collects

3What Sono (the bot) collects

When you chat with Sono, it stores the following so it can coach you:

Your profile

Your intake answers

Your daily check-ins

Your gym logs

Conversations and safety

Sono doesn't store photos, voice messages or files you send. The only images involved are progress charts that Sono creates and sends to you.

Some of this, such as health screening answers and body metrics, is health information. We ask for your explicit consent during intake before collecting it, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your data (see section 9).

4How we use it

We don't sell your data, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't share it with anyone except the services listed in section 6.

5AI processing

Sono's replies are written by an AI model, Anthropic's Claude, which we use through Anthropic's API. To write a reply, or to read a message where you log your lifts, Sono sends Anthropic the relevant message along with the context it needs, such as your profile, recent logs and conversation history.

Anthropic processes this to generate the reply. Under Anthropic's commercial terms for its API, Anthropic doesn't use this data to train its models by default. It automatically deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, though it can keep them longer where the law requires it or to enforce its usage policy, for example if a message is flagged as violating it. See Anthropic's Privacy Center for details.

AI can make mistakes. Use your own judgment, and don't rely on Sono for medical decisions.

6Who else handles your data

We use a few services to run Sono. They process data on our behalf and only for these purposes:

If you live outside the US, your data will be transferred to and stored in the US. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.

7Where it's stored and how long we keep it

Your data is stored in a database on a DigitalOcean server in New York (nyc1), USA, and synced to the private Google Sheet described above.

We keep your data for as long as you're using Sono. All of your data (profile, intake answers, logs and messages) is deleted 90 days after your last message to Sono, or sooner if you send /deleteme. The same rule applies to the review copy in the Google Sheet.

Sono will send you a reminder in Telegram 7 days before your data is deleted. Reply to Sono to keep your data, or send /export first to download a copy.

8Security

Access to your data is limited to Luke and those who help him run and maintain Sono. Access to the server is protected, and your data is sent over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, though, so please don't share anything with Sono that you aren't comfortable storing.

9Your rights: access, copy and deletion

10Age limit

Sono is only for adults 18 and over. We ask for your date of birth during intake to check this. If we find out that someone under 18 has used Sono, we'll delete their data.

11Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, for example if we start collecting new kinds of data, Sono will let you know in Telegram before it takes effect.
